Biometry as part of our modern life

Biometrics are measurable forms of the living body or its behaviour both of which are highly individua for every single person. Crime and terror have risen to an all-time high while password, PINcode and Smart Card security continues to decline. In countless situations it is necessary to be absolutely sure a person is truly who he or she purports to be.

Biometric Authentication increases security and simplifies this process. Governments of 189 countries have therefore decided to implement biometrics in their official travel documents. mankind will rapidly learn to use and trust biometrics. Gradually biometric authentication will become a common part of our modern life.

BiDoc, secure access due to BIOMETRY.com AG

With BiDoc (Biometric Documents), all known biometrics can be saved on one card, thus it offers secure access control to all kind of areas (e.g. buildings etc). Highest security can be achieved by using the authentication process of ComBiom, the core product of BIOMETRY.com AG, on the card. ComBiom is a multimodal simultaneous biometric authentication process, containing the biometric face recognition, the biometric voice recognition, the recognition of the biometric lip movement and word recognition, requested by a randomly generated row of numbers (Random Challenge Response and otp = one time password). Through the combination of these four processes, the highest level of security can be achieved. Thereby, ComBiom may be applied as a package or, depending on the customers needs, the single biometric modes can be used as well.

Depending on what biometrics are applied on the card, specific hardware is required. For example a microphone for the audio data of the voice or a webcam for the video data of the face is needed. All these technical equipment is available for low costs.

Simple Application for Users

The application of BiDoc is simple. First he has to save his data on the chip of the card. If the authentication of ComBiom is used, he therefore speaks the numbers from 0,1,2... to 9. The Webcam registers for every number a file (reference template, approx. 4 KB), which contain all four authentication processes. For later logical access he holds his card to the card reader and his biometric data gets checked. If it matches the previously saved reference templates, the user will be allowed to enter the area. This process is very quick, simple and offers high security at the same time.

BiDoc brings about various benefits to the customer:

1.        Variegated Application, e.g. the face for physical access

2.        High customer friendliness: simple handling, no passwords

3.        There is no need for a server that saves all da personal data

4.        Highest security standards, according to ICAO Standard

ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) is an agency of the united nations, defining the principles and techniques of travel documents.

5.        Basic Access Control through BiDoc

The RFID chip on the card is generally encoded and not readable. Therefore, according to the passport, there is a code printed on the card, which is readable for machines (>>>>>PassNo>>>>>dateofbirth>>>>>country>>>>>lastname>>>>>firstname>>>>>). Not until the optical reader has read this code and sent a certain signal to the RFID reader, the biometric data are approved and may be used for authentication.
